Teach English in Buenos Aires Argentina
Buenos Aires is known as the
“Paris of South America” and is the birthplace of the Tango. Experience
the best of Argentina in this lively capital city. Most residents of
Buenos Aires speak Spanish, so if you also want to improve your
Spanish, it's the place for you. English is not widely spoken, so as
you can imagine, there's plenty of room for another qualified English
teacher.
Central Buenos Aires is full of beautiful buildings designed by the same French architects that designed some of Paris’ most famous buildings. When you walk through the wide, tree-lined boulevards of Buenos Aires you could easily imagine that you have been magically transported to Paris.
Buenos Aires is an energetic and seductive port city, which stretches south-to-north along the Rio de la Plata and has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. "Porteños", as the natives of Buenos Aires are known, possess an elaborate and rich cultural identity. They value their European heritage highly. Italian and German names outnumber Spanish names and the lifestyle and architecture are markedly more European than any other in South America. One of the world's finest opera houses, the "Teatro Colon", flourishes here on the plains alongside the river. "Porteños" are intensely involved in the life and culture of their city, and they will gladly share the secrets of Buenos Aires if you lend an ear and relate your own stories in return.
The huge metropolis of Buenos Aires is one of the most exciting, charming and fascinating of all South American capitals. It's an immensely enjoyable place just to wander about, stopping off for an espresso or an ice cream, or people-watching, or shopping, or simply soaking up the unique atmosphere. Its many barrios, or neighborhoods, are startlingly different, some decadently old-fashioned, others very modern, but all of them oozing character. Added to that, Buenos Aires is the Argentina’s gastronomic centerpiece and boasts a frenzied nightlife that makes it one of the world's great round-the-clock cities.
To complete the picture, add the Andes, Patagonia and its glacial region, the huge Igazú falls, gauchos, skiing in the southern lake district - not to mention miles of beaches to the south of Buenos Aires - and you've got a very interesting location to explore. Buenos Aires is also the business and financial centre of Argentina and so is the best place to find TEFL jobs in Argentina.
Course Description
TEFL International/Buenos Aires is a professional organization dedicated to the training of teachers. Your month long program is intensive and designed to prepare you to move into a professional role as a TEFL teacher with confidence. During the course you will be introduced to a sequence of effective teaching practices, including such topics as lesson planning, assessment of proficiency levels, classroom management. You will work with a variety of teaching materials designed for different proficiency levels and teaching environments. You will have practice in modifying and adapting these materials during your teaching practice sessions. Our course also includes segments on grammar and phonology specifically adapted to your needs as a TEFL teacher. Finally, throughout the course we will be focusing on developing the habits of self-critique and reflection that will help you to continue to grow as a teacher throughout your teaching career. Your trainers have a passion for good teaching which they are eager to share!
During the practicum portion of the course our goal is to provide you with a range of teaching opportunities, allowing you to experience personally the different contexts in which TEFL teachers work. You will both teach and observe your fellow trainees teaching during this part of the program. You will teach a minimum of six one hour classes, more where possible, and observe an equal number.
The course runs, full-time over 4 weeks. Exact times are subject to change but generally speaking the course hours are: Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with one hour for lunch. Once you get to the course, you will be given a detailed course timetable and your teaching practice schedule.
Trainees are expected to attend all input and other sessions included on the schedule unless they are sick and require medical treatment. This is particularly important for Teaching Practice (TP). It is very difficult to arrange an alternate TP time and there may be an additional fee for rescheduled TP classes.
