Corinth Greece

Conveniently situated 50 miles from Athens, Corinth is the gateway to the Peloponnese, an area rich in natural beauty and historical sites. Ancient Corinth is an important archaeological site, and above the ancient town towers Acrocorinth, a fortress used throughout the middle ages by Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish occupiers.

Noted for its year-round mild Mediterranean climate, Corinth, in Greece, easily blends the grace of past centuries with the warmth of present-day hospitality.  An electric tram now links Corinth with Athens, just 50 miles away, but you won’t be needing it much for either history or excitement.  Corinth itself is full of upscale stores and trendy coffee shops and nightclubs, as well as a host of commercial enterprises that mean steady employment for the TEFL graduate.

History comes alive on every street in Corinth, where Turks, Crusaders, Romans, Phoenicians, and many other ancient people strove to either master or destroy this fascinating sea port.  The Apostle Paul gave Christianity several of its most important doctrines here, through his Epistles to the Corinthians.    A wide blend of philosophy and religion runs through the town, making the citizens open-minded and welcoming.  Today the city is noted for its fine leatherwork, as well as an incredibly diverse cuisine combining elements of European and Eastern ingredients that make every gyro sandwich an orgy for your taste buds.  It’s impossible to get a bad meal, or a rude waiter, in Corinth!

Turn your back on the history and industry of Corinth and you’ll be facing the fascinating Peloponnesian waters.  Here snorkelers can find Roman coins, Grecian amphoras, perhaps even the mythical head of the Gorgon, said to have been thrown into the waters of the bay by Perseus.  Or you can sail away for a weekend on one of the many small islands that dot the coastline.

Whatever you choose to do with your time in Corinth, you’ll do it well-fed, well-traveled, and, with your TESOL certificate, well-paid.
